my 2001 fozzie s has 148k
tranny fluid clear, bright red.
no real shifting problems...except a 2-3 second delay from reverse to drive when cold(no biggie have been living with this for 1.5yrs)

i have a seepage leak on the pan
2 drops on the garage floor every nite(adds up)
looks like someone b4 me changed the gasket(crappy job) that is where the seepage leak is coming from.

my question is:
should i fix the problem and risk bigger issues down the line?

dont really feel comfortable changing fluid in stages if you DIY
i can only anticipate fustration trying to use liquid gasket(Fugi Bond right?) with tranny fluid dripping from above.

???

If you have some tools and time, it isn't too hard of a job. It doesn't sound like you need a full flush at this time. Just a leak fix.

Drain and drop the pan.
Clean the underside of the trans, leave a drip pan below the transmission for any extra drips while you are away.
Drag the pan over to work bench.
Clean inside, use a gasket scraper or razor blade to clean off surface of the pan.
-- ETA check to make sure the pan has a good, flat lip and not bent; one little bend can throw off a good seal
Apply gasket sealant.
Drag pan back underneath Forester.
Wipe down any drips that formed on the underside.
Reinstall pan.

Make sure you torque it to spec - I don't recall what that is off hand, probably 18-20 lb/ft.

so i dont need to 'change' fluid to drop pan?
just re-fill with used fluid that i driained from pan.
thats simple enough.
