Well bought the forester off my friend who had replaced the clutch and everything this summer but he used an advance auto clutch kit. The throwout bearing uses a shim between the TO and the input shaft. When i removed the tranny the TO seems to be shot and pretty sure the clips popped off as well. So i have a OEM exedy clutch i was going to install but the ID of the new TO has a .011 difference than the OD of the input shaft. doesnt normal at all. Or is it?
does anyone have some insight of what the ID of the throwout bearing and OD of the input shaft should be
There are no specs in the FSM from 98 to 2005. But if the 'snout' is worn, you should consider a 'snout repair kit'. Especially if this was recent repair and needs it again.
It consists of a nice stainless steel sleeve that goes over the current snout and a new throwout bearing with a larger inner diameter. It makes a long lasting repair.
This is common on many Subaru's..... hence the availability of the kit.
Here's one of many websites. be certain it's for a NON-TURBO transmission.
snout is hardly worn at all. it is round and true with maybe +/- .002 difference in any spots. previous throwout bearing used a shim like in the snout repair kits but the shim fit nice and tight, so i can only assume the throwout bearing from the exedy kit was poorly manufactured or is the wrong one. bought a new one from advance tonight and gonna see how it fits
You're getting WAY to worried about .011" emry cloth out the .002" ridges and be done with it
The snout repair kit will likely have the same tolerance of not looser...
Like I said, the TOB aligns itself on the clutch teeth as the clutch is pressed... it's also why you can move the bearing around in the housing..
