I need to replace my center differential and transfer gears. I have already read the post on how to swap the differential. All I have left to do is remove the shift linkage to get to the back of the transfer case. I need to remove the pin that attaches the u-joint to the shaft. My question is, do I just use a hammer and punch to push the pin through the shaft or is there another way to do it?
I have a video on YouTube showing what I want to do. Here it is: .
Edit: I got it part-way done. The pin is a split pin within a split pin. I used a 5 mm bolt as a punch to push out the center pin then an 8 mm bolt to push out the outer pin. Once the center pin was out the outer pin didn't take so much force.
I still can't get the bolt out of the u-joint. I was able to move everything out of the way so I don't think I will have to remove it. I hope it's not a problem getting back into position.
