Non Roll Pin Axles

Ok, had an axle fall apart while upgrading to swift springs. The inner joint (by transmission) just fell apart....

How are the front inner joints held together? I know with the axles that have a roll pin, they have a clip that holds in the inner CV joint. This axle has no roll pin (so you pry it out of the transmission, as a circlip holds it in). Is there really nothing that keeps it held in? Is it just held in by the pressure of the clamp?

Thanks!

EDIT: And what is the tool called that tightens the CV boot clamps? These are the clamps I am talking about.

Bumpo! Only axle rebuilding information I can find is for older axles with roll pins. FSM shows that my axles have roll pins too (which they don't). The joys of owning a transitional year car!

Yup. Confirmed with a few different sources. Some 03 and all 04+ subaru's have no roll pin, and there is no retaining clip on the inner CV joint, so it just slides out if there is enough room.
