I've noticed that when I roll back (like getting out of my driveway) in Neutral and while still rolling and wanting to back out a little faster I shift in Reverse. There is slight resistance and a light grinding noise. I've read the manual and says nothing about this. So do I have to be in a COMPLETE stop in order to even mess with Reverse?
Something to do with the synchro, I think. I used to be able to shift into first while moving backwards in my Land Rover without a problem, but now it crunches the gears, so I come to a stop before changing gears.
I used to have that problem in my 2001 Outback. When it did that, I'd just double clutch and she seemed to work better going into reverse. Just something you'll have to learn to live with me-thinks.
My 2001 Forester manual (dual range tranny) I have to double clutch it to get into reverse, never grinds though. Just wont go in no matter how hard you try. Everytime I have to double clutch it
My first gear is making a whinning sound and grinds if i try to put it into first when not completely stopped. Don't need to double clutch that though.
Its just something ive learnt to live with.
I don't shift into reverse if the car is moving, it will crunch -- I do it at a complete stop only. If the shifter won't go into reverse as it often happens, I shift into 4th, let the clutch out a bit for gears to move, then shift into reverse.
