loose differential dipstick

I checked my differential fluids yesterday and replaced everything as i found it. This afternoon, i noticed my engine smoking. When i finally got home, i peeked my head in and noticed my dipstick was moving around loosely. I completely drained and refilled the fluids, once again replaced everything as i found it. Unfortunately, the dipstick feels very loose. Is this something that is normal? Should i be trying to replace it, or at least the o-ring?

Probably just need to change the oring. You may even want to just pick up a new dipstick.

I stopped by 2 autoparts stores and neither one carried a replacement dipstick. I guess it is something im going to have order? Anyone know what size o-ring I would need. I don't really want to drive the car for fear of having the dipstick pop out again.

U should be able to go to a hardware store and match the O-Ring.

Be careful what you wish for.

I tried to check mine on the weekend but the dipstick would not budge no matter how hard I pulled up on it.

The dip sticks have a different part number for the NA and the XT, at least according to opposedforces.com. Which would mean some thing is different. Length, low/full line....?

For $15-20 I were the OP I just grab a new one at the dealer and know it is the right one.

^^ have your vin, it makes it easier for them to get you the right part. You can also try one of our supporting dealers in the vendors section. With the discount they give you may be able to get it shipped to your door for about the same cost as your local dealer, unless you are like me and try to keep your money local.
