New guy here.........Have an 08 Forester Sports XT. It's COBB Stage 1 right now, wanted to know how much HP can an Auto trans. take. I don't launch it or race it, it's a daily driver. Was looking at stage 2, or possibly a VF43 upgrade. Are they reliable passed a stage 1? Thanx in advance.
It will be torque to kill the trans, not so much horsepower. Also, this is very subjective to the use. If you never get hard into boost and drive slow everywhere it can probably handle 400ft-lbs. Any spirited driving, this amount reduces significantly.
300 ft lbs of wheel torque if you want to be safe. This translates to ~400 ft-lbs at the crank. Or you can think of it as a VF43 @ 17-18 psi. If you wish to try to push things, go for whatever your tuner thinks is safe for your motor. I have a Blouch 18g-xt tuned to 17.5 psi. It makes just a hair over 300 ft-lbs to the wheels, and there are no transmission issues whatsoever. I drive the car sanely, and don't try to induce wheelspin on a daily basis. I also change my ATF regularly.
they can take quite abit of abuse my car isnt babied with over 450wtq i run 23 psi on a 20g on e85 and have gone 12's on my vf turbo befor this on the stock tranny.
