So I know this is one of the Foz's weaknesses. Pretty sure an axle or wheel bearing is dying, sound is coming from rear, and its sounding bad. Mostly when I make right hand turns. Does that mean left or right side?
Also, any quick way for me to tell if it's axle bearing or wheel bearing? I don't think its bad enough to where the wheel will wobble when jacked up, although I'm going to check this out this afternoon just to see.
What are typical repair costs for one or both of these in your experience? I can't do it myself, don't have the time or right tools.
If it is on right turns then it is likely the left rear wheel bearing.
When mine went it was replaced under warranty, so I'm not sure of the repair costs.
thanks, so I had a look this afternoon and the wheels don't show any play, but that doesn't rule out wheel bearings.
Looks like the rear left drive shaft has significantly more surface rust than the right, going into the rear differential. Is this just because of it's proximity to the exhaust or could it be a sign of seal failure on that side?
OK, so it's definitely the left rear wheel bearing, but my mechanic can't get the thru-bolt on the wheel knuckle off. It's seized to the knuckle. I really hope they don't damage a knuckle or lateral links try to get this thing loose.

Very common... The bolt WILL come loose, it just takes a LOT of work... (heat, pen-oil, lots of swearing, not over torquing)
I HAVE done wheel bearing by removing the inner lat link bolts and simply working around the links in the press, make it a PITA, but it can be done...
