I own a 2009 Forester 2.5 na with a manual trans. Recently I've noticed a noise when engaging or releasing the clutch pedal. Is this normal ? Is there a grease fitting that would quiet this down ? Not sure but it sounds like a spring. The car has 65885 miles on it. Any Thoughts ?
This noise sounds like it might be common. I've had manual trans in all my cars for 40 years and surprised the clutch could be going bad so soon. Almost all the miles are expressway. So if the clutch is bad I will NOT use a Subaru clutch. Who makes a better clutch systerm ?
Just had my pilot bearing go out in my 2010 was making a lite whistling noise in the morning would go away if u pushed the clutch in just a little. Took it to the dealer and its a wear part not covered under warranty ( its 500 dollars for the dealer to pull the tranny out ) luckly the service manager got subaru to give 350 dollars goodwill towards the repair (pilot bearing is cheap and so is the throw out bearing like 50 bucks for both ) so the mechanic said since he was in there might as well replace the clutch plate and pressure plate. I had 59600 miles on it so i might as well so for 785.00 dollars got a new clutch installed and subaru payed the 350 towards labor so all in all subaru helped me.
Side note for folks with manual transmission mechanic told me in future keep the clutch pushed in least as possible he said thats the main reason why most subaru clutches fail keeping the clutch pushed in at stop lights ; that shortens the pressure plate fingers tension. So if u drive in alot of stop and go traffic jams might consider a automatic .
My word of advise to anyone with a clutch noise dont wait to long to take in to get fixed. It will get alot more expensive if u wear or break the clutch components.
I have 318,000kms (183000miles) On mind clutch still running noise free and like a champ, except for the cold day shudder until warm.
