I was thinking, since my VC is def. acting up, about transfer gear damage. What is taking the brunt of it when it hops/grinds in tight manuvering/cornering??
The noise and vibration in tight corners is called "torque bind", there's some good stuff here if you do a forum search for it. General consensus is that the cause is the transfer duty solenoid.
I've done seaching-o'-plenty. I can imagine that it's worn from the PO's towing, and poorly inflated/mismatched tires. I just wanted to know what is taking the brunt of the abuse from the Torque bind besides the VC.
BTW, I have a manual, and as far as I know, it is fully mechanical, utilizing no solenoids. Only the VC.
BTW just checked the price on Subarupartsonline and it's $512 plus shipping. The part# is now 38913AA102, which apparently(I assume anyway) has superceded the AA100/AA101 numbers. I hope the new one is a bit more robust. Once I get rid of my remaining E30 parts, i'll be picking up a new one and installing after I get some fresh tires & driveline bushings.
