I've been telling myself I'm going to sell this car for 3 years now, but I just never do. Love having no payments and I just don't know what I'd get to replace it. The only thing that annoys me is the short 5th gear. I hate cruising on the highway at 75 running 3300 rpms or so, it's just ridiculous. I know I can do a 6 spd swap, but am not looking for anything more than dropping my highway cruise revs and was wondering if simply swapping out the 5th gear for another would be a viable alternative, or even possible. I don't have the facilities or time to tackle this myself, so I would have to pay for labor. My clutch is still fine at 90K but would replace that while it's apart anyway.
So given the options, easier and cheaper to do a full 6 spd swap, or crack the case and get longer 5th gear if a compatible one exists? Or what about a newer WRX 5spd? I hear those have longer gears? Would that just bolt right up?
