Default Ticking/tapping Noise

Hello I have a 2004 Foreste xs 5 speed.I has been 13-20 degrees the past few mornings.I let the car warm up to operating temp. When driving upon accelarating I am hearing what sounds like a ticking/tapping noise.Like when you put bad gas in the older cars/pinging.I had put Sunoco 93 octane in but it still did it.The good thing is when the car is very warmed up it goes away..Anything I should worry about????Also this morning the clutch felt very spongy but that also went away after driving..Im new to Subaru and this all may be pretty normal..Thanks in advance

It's a pretty normal Subaru sound. When it gets loud I usually check my oil and its a bit low.

sweet, I was worried because I only just started hearing the noise recently (I usually have the radio on in the morning).

I was like "was that noise always there or is it new?"

Over the last few weeks I noticed at cold temps too - once it warms up is seems fine .. the dealership told me that I have to replace pistons 2 & 4 on my 04 Forester with 103,000 km to the tune of $2100.00 CDN - I'm freaked out and there is nothing I can do to prevent it from happening again ...

I'm also getting this sound.. hot or cold. However, I'm not certain this is the normal boxer sound. This happens mostly when the RPMs are low, like when I'm in 4th or 5th gear and I forget to drop to 2nd and hit the gas. Its like a rattle can sound, something that also happened very rarely with my Civic.

is this a problem in my driving technique or is it something mechanical (boxer engine characteristic or bad clutch, etc, etc)

Be careful there is a fine line of the boxer sound and piston slap.
