Default Thermostat: no jiggle pin, can I drill a hole?

Guys, I picked up a thermostat from NAPA on the road when I determined my stock one was sticking. Never needed it. Now that I want to put it in, the lack of a jiggle pin bothers. Can I just drill a small bypass hole and use it? Hate to waste $10.

edit: Forgot to add, I did read elsewhere of others drilling say a pair of 1/16" holes, but I want the opinion of foz.org guys. Thanks.
