The Forester is based on the Impreza chassis. Before my current Forester, I had a 1988 2WD GL Sedan (before they were called "
Loyale") and a 1998 AWD Impreza Wagon. Both had rear struts fail before 20,000 miles, and the Impreza had a rear wheel bearing fail at ~75,000 miles. Neither were driven off road, or for any racing --- just normal city & highway use.
