OK I need some help with my car. Here's the story. I was having problems starting the car at anytime so I replaced the battery still having problems. So found out the fuel pump was bad so I replaced it with a walbro 255. All was good for like a week and then all of a sudden the car wasn't starting but the funny part is now it only won't start after I drive it and let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes like to run into a store real quick. It cranks but doesn't start. It will start if I jump it out and if it sits for like 45 minutes. I have had a mechanic look at it and he said it's the weirdest thing he has ever seen. I know for a fact the problem is its not getting fuel after I start it but idk why. And why it starts when you jump it or let it sit for 45 minutes after I shut it off. Another fact is it has happened a couple of time. Once it does start up I drove it like 50 feet and died on me. But when it has has done that it starts right back up with no problem.
So everyone understands clearly, can you answer these..
After you start it and drive for a short while, it will crank but not start?
If you have it jumped it will start regardless of driving first?
How did you establish it's not getting fuel?
Does the fuel pump run when it doesn't start?
How long does it have to sit before starting on its own again?
It could be anything from a heat soaked starter, vapor lock, bad FPR, electrical (due to high resistance from a bad solder joint usually), etc etc it goes on and on...
Perhaps a few more details would help, it difficult enough to troubleshoot via the interwebs..
so its a 2006 with 75xxx manual
It cranks but doesnt start.
I have established that its not getting fuel by using starter fluid ever time this happens. I know its not recommended but its is a diagnostic tool. I dont know how to exactly tell if the pump is running when it doesnt start. All I can tell is that when it doesnt start the pump does prime. It will start again on its own when it sits for like 30-45 minutes. My buddy has mentioned that it might be getting vapor lock. Now if this is the case why is it doing it and why doesnt all subarus have this problem. Also then why does it start when I jump it out if it was vapor lock or even a heat soaked starter. If it was a bad FPR wouldnt I be having problems driving it as well besides just starting. Also does anybody have a schematic of where all the grounds are so I am able to check them all? I only know of 4 of them. I am leading towards a bad ground.
I really appreciate you guys taking the time to give me advice. This problem is extremely frustrating especially when I am having this problem right after buying it from a dealership.
I'm getting the exact same issue on my 2005 XT. Did you ever figure out your issue?
