Default P0303 & P0304 code on an 09' / NA 4EAT

I got a call from a friend that his new (>9K miles) Forester's CEL came on (the VDC light comes on at the same time) Seems he was on the highway and went to WOT to pass and the light came on. My first thought was loose gas cap of course but we just went to autozone to pull the code and it's the misfire in cyl 3&4 (my code reader is in my Forester and I have my Miata today)

I'm wondering if this is a real problem or an anomaly due to momentary low fuel pressure. I'm thinking the car is to new to have most of the standard things to look at. I have not cleared the code yet but will to see if this comes back. Has anyone with an 09 seen this happen?

honestly, why dick around with diagnosing it at all.. it is under warranty... however i would check for loose spark plug wires.. coil pack connections.. something along the ignition line...

Because I can :)

He'll take it in but he does not live all that close to the dealer. I'm just checking if others with an 09 have seen this or not.

I noticed some mention of something like this on Cobb's forums I believe. In that case it was with an AP, but it was stated that they thought it could happen in stock condition. I'll see if I can find it.

Ok, found it. It wasn't an '09. The relevant bits are here: COBB Forums - View Single Post - 2007-2008 Forester XT MT AccessPORT Calibration Reviews, with more here: COBB Forums - View Single Post - 2007-2008 FXT MT v101 & FXT AT v100 AccessPORT Calibration Reviews.

Well I went to read and reset his codes and my reader is too old. It no CAN do I suppose :) He's going to take it to the dealer so I should not clear the code anyway. But all of a sudden I need a new code reader :( so I ordered this one:

ActronŽ CP9180

That should work with the newer cars.

I got this one for cheap off ebay for my dad for his Bday: ACTRON CP9410

It is USB port updateable. Haven't gotten a chance to play w/ it but it seems that my parents' cars have more CELs than mine.
