New here, so hello all. Been using this forum for years but I stumbled upon an issure I can't find the correct thread for.
So long story short. I tried to cross a creek, to deep and I got stuck. Walked up to my buddy's to get his truck to pull me out. Upon returning the gravel bank collapsed. My car was up to the windows in water, well then front half anyway. The car wasn't running so no hydrolock thank goodness. I brought it home one and started disassembling. There was water in everything possible including all the cylinders. I did the normal get the water out stuff. Spark plugs replaced all fluids etc. here is where the problem comes in. I tried to start it and nothing! Is this an ecu problem possibly? Starter? I'm Not sure if the starter sealed or not. Please refer me to the correct thread or help?
Disconnect all critical components( and a few others ) or most of the wiring harness that was soaked.
ONly one connector at a time, though, and use a spritz or two of Plastic-Safe contact cleaner.
FOllow up with a schmear ( only if noted in the service manual electrical schematic that you're following) of Suby approved dielectric grease, if there is such a thing req'd.
I wouldn't be surprised if your EVAP circuit sucked some H2O,,, so you could be getting a dose of that as it's relieved from your CCanister over time.
And, maybe it leaked into the fuel tank, as well..
Of course :lildevil: , this flood water was pristine, so there's absolutely no possibility of there being any mud in the starter or alternator. Or any relays or other , not quite sealed, components.
I forgot to add,,,, remove the interior, seats, carpet/padding. ( I'll forgo mentioning everything under the dash)...
It's going to stink anyway. Salvage( of some pieces) will take some work, to say the least.
ANyway you can just "total" the car through your insurance?
I assume there were airbags submerged, Beware, these will be corroding bombs waiting to go off...
If you get it running, it's still going to be a pile of work to keep it running, let alone being able to breathe in it.
COrroding connectors , etc., will be throwing gremlins at you as long as you own it.
^ I do not know where the ECU is located in a 2009, however I do know that in earlier models it is in the floor and is susceptible to being swamped - unfortunately! Especially if the car has been sitting in the water for a little while.
The ECU is in the same location as earlier models - passenger foot well at the firewall.
