Default No "chirp" after maintenance

Hi--I have a 2004 Forester that has keyless remote entry. I've grown to like the fact that it chirps when I lock or unlock it remotely.

This week, I took it for its 60,000 tune-up. When I got home I realized the car no longer chirped when I used remote. So I looked up instructions and saw that I'm supposed to press 2 buttons (unlock & lock) simultaneously for 2 seconds after unlocking car using remote in order to activate the chirp.

The lights are supposed to flash when you do this, which they did. But it didn't chirp. The problem is definitely with the car, not the remote, because we have a second remote for the car and that didn't work either. We called the garage that did our maintenance, and of course, they say they didn't touch anything that should have affected it.

I am assuming they disconnected something accidentally. Does anyone know where--specifically-- the origin of the chirp is located internally/within the car and how I can diagnose or possibly fix it myself?

How many times did you do the code? The 03-05 keyless system has 3 modes, and each time you do it you get a different mode. On my 05 I can do flash/chirp, flash/no chirp, or no flash/no chirp.

Thanks for your reply. I haven't tried doing this consecutively, but I have tried doing it at least 3 times. So I would think that each time I did the code, the mode would have changed (assuming I have 3 modes as your '05 does, but the manual only mentions 2). I can try doing doing the code consecutively a few times in a row on the off chance that will work, but I'm doubtful... I really think they disconnected the chirp mechanism (wherever it is) in my car.

I wonder if they accidentally unplugged the little piezo dealio that makes the chirp... I'll go outside to have a look for it.

It's Front and center behind the grill. Just look in the center, mounted to the front of the upright support. Look over on Scooby Mods, I'm pretty certain Peaty even has a picture of it.

Yeah, that's what I found, too. The cable goes down in front of the grille and disappears rearward. I was too lazy to remove the plastic motor cover to follow it to the connector.
