Is it just me or do 2017 seem to have an unusual amount of problems?

Looking to trade up my 2015 for 2017, but looks like a quite few problems with 2107.

A question to the members who have a good view of the quality history of Foresters & Subaru in general:
Is this level of reported issues excessive for a mid cycle refresh?
Thanks to all who will reply.

It'd help to list out the problems for the 2017, per your statement.

@Alex.F what issues? 2017 ones in particular....

there may be some lingering ones, that are found in the other 2014-2016 models...but all that info is covered pretty thoroughly on here in different sections.

There were several 2017s delivered and had codes appear within a few hundred miles (or right after driving them off the lot). That has accounted for several of the threads on 2017s here, and there is already a TSB and a software update that solves the problem IIRC.

So I'd say there was a problem, but it's been solved (and it was just software).

I'm sure Subaru will have sorted out any problems with the boxer flux capacitors by 2107.

But I'm not seeing major issues with the 2017s being reported here. Certainly, nowhere near as many as for the 2014 and 2015 model years.

I had a cel pop up my first 1500 miles. Minor issue, and it was my knock sensor failing. Is it enough to make me unhappy with my purchase? No.

That is the answer I was looking for as I was not a member when 2014 MY was introduced & don't have the history to judge the comparative number of issues.

This one may actually not be a problem, but sounds really strange that all this was caused by a spot on the windshield

First off, I finally found a mod that interests me. Flux capacitor. Awesome!!!! Secondly, I expect even new cars to have some failures so having to replace a sensor does not bother me but I hear you. Now one of the issues you listed was bird poop. I suspect that this was an issue in past years as well

If you look at the TrueDelta website on car reliability you might get a feel for the issues. But for the SJ its pretty rock solid in 2015/16 with a more reported problems in 2014, but compared to many marques still very low.

Arguably, if bird poop affects operation of a car, it may be considered a problem.

For the record (am I tempting fate?) my 2017 XT has been fine for the 1,400 miles that are currently on it.
