I didn't read that pdf, but the reset that I was taught (by the dealer) was to open it all the way, hold the button for 20 seconds, then close all the way, hold the button for 20 seconds, and viola, all is good. Worked for me.

In fact, the one thing that DIDN't work right on my car before I bought it was the moonroof, and helped me negotiate $300 off the price of the car, and it was an easy fix.

Not quite! It's actually right at the rear of the headliner (where the motor lives).

Default stupid moonroof. stupid warranty!

ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGHHHHHHHHHHHHh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!

my moonroof's been busted for a while and i took it in to have it looked at today. apparantly, the cable track assembly thing's got a problem. the roof will lower, but not move at all.

here's the fun part.

i've got the classic extended warranty, it covers the motor and switches, but not the assembly and cables. BULL****E!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! there's also no chance of me upgrading to gold warranty.

1320 to replace it. that's 580 for the part and the rest is labor.

anybody ever replace one of these things? i'm thinking about just doing it myself. also, i'm going to try to get a cheaper one from somewhere if possible.

any input or advice?

Cool

Is this an actual Subaru warranty or third party extended coverage?

What is your relationship with the service manager at the dealer?

What year is your Forester? (just for future reference, it would help if you put this info in your profile).

Unhappy

I'd give the service manager a call to see if there is anything he/she can do for you, next I would try SOA (Subaru of America) if you don't have any luck.

How long have you owned the car?

from what he said, there's "probably a cable malfunction" and the whole assembly needs to be replaced, as individual components cannot be changed out.

i talked to SOA and the manager. there's nothing they'll do. i was hoping to just upgrade to the gold warranty, but that can't be done after 36K. I've had it 2 yrs now.

"probably"? I'd want a more definate answer than that.......give SOA a shout. If you haven't owned the car for very long....they (hopefully) will be able to do something for you.

My wife's 03 XS had a head gasket leak (external oil leak, not coolant) & it was well past it's powertrain warranty. I spoke with the service manager & he 'went to bat' for us & got Subaru Canada to pay for all the parts & met me half way on the labour.....saved us about a grand in the end......good service managers are worth their weight in gold IMO.

yeah, i'm gonna try another one. he says "probably" because the motor still works.

me: well, can't he go up there and see what it is?

service: but he'd have to take all the stuff out to remove the headliner and there would be labor involved. one sid works and the other doesn't. blah blah blah

me: ahhhh, **** it.
