Dying and surging under acceleration

Can anyone help and tell me what I should look at to remedy the problem below: When the car is cold i have no problems BUT when it does a long trip and warms up and I go to really put my foot down (punch it), the car holds back like it's going to die and then takes off but while accelerating it has a surging motion. It's a '97 forester STi.

Hi, had tha same problem. I just cleaned the maf and it was all good afterwards. (almost) hehe

Sounds like a problem I had coupla years ago. That was the MAF too!

Okay help a dumn layman here what is a MAF and where is it so I can try clean this and hopefully sort my problem out
