ABS, VDC light came on.

So I was driving and the abs and vdc lights came on. Pulled over after a minute or two and restarted the car. The lights went off initially for but came back on after a few minutes. Any idea of what's wrong? Should I get the car looked at?

Please check your Owner's Manual Supplement for details of the VDC indicator lights. There are two of them.

Did you find anything out from the manual?

USMC - One Shot, One Kill. You can run, but you'll die tired.

Yes. I found out that when the abs light comes on there's something wrong with the abs.

I drove slowly through some large puddles yesterday, hours before the lights came on, that's all I can think of that might have messed something up.

I drove around today and no warnings. Maybe I'll still get it looked at.

It could be that there's an ill-fitting electrical connection and it got water in it which has now dried out. It's certainly best to get it checked out.

I guess so. I have another minor issue with the car so I guess I'll have it looked at before I go on a trip in a few days.

Went to the dealer today to have it looked at. After I dropped the car off I went to get some breakfast and came back and noticed it still hadn't been looked at. Went inside and complained and they said I'd have to leave it there all day and it would take about four hours to get the abs looked at, so I said no thanks just give me my car back. I also asked them to check the oil level as it seemed like they overfilled it the last time I brought it there to get the oil changed a couple weeks ago, so they checked it and said they'd take some out, and they did... about two quarts! I won't be going back there again.

Edit: My car is a 2008 Forester XT Limited

I've been having this happen again lately and complained to my dealer each time it happened. Since the lights clear whenever you restart the car, and no codes store, they said that couldn't even document the issue without seeing it happen in person. Basically, if it happens it has to happen during business hours, I have to drop whatever I'm doing, not turn the car off, and immediately drive to the dealer.

After months of the lights, it finally happened when I was able to drop what I was doing and swing by the dealership. I got there just as the last tech was leaving, but they hooked up SSM and got a steering angle sensor error. They don't know if that is actually the problem, but it's the best guess right now.

I just got the car back after having the steering angle sensor replaced. It's not a cheap part ($335 list... OUCH) but it was covered by my SAS Gold plan.

Now the only thing left to do is sit and wait to see if it happens again.

Hopefully this gives others an avenue to pursue for this strange problem.
