Ive a 2004 xt and im going for another map after getting a vf41 ,hatch Sti intercooler, full decat and fuel pump fitted.my mapper say it will run 360 flywheel bhp and about 380+lbs running on vpower @99octane.My concern is im still running a standard clutch and worry it will kill it.My other slight concern is in my last 400ish bhp impreza the gearbox gave up after a few months. Are the 5 speed forester boxes also fragile?

From my experiences (presonal and read), the OEM clutches are pretty strong. Some guys over on the Naisoc forum have run them up to 370ftlbs at the wheels and they hold up. But if you have higher mileage or it was prevously abused it might be on it's way out even before you add more power. I had the original clutch in mine up til 150K miles and was running a VF39. I only replaced it because I was going to a bigger turbo and didn't want it to fail on the dyno. When I got it off it was getting close to the end of it's life but it never slipped under the power of the VF39. It's a little bit of a crap shoot!
How many miles/kms are on yours? And sadly yes, the FXT 5 speed is about as fragile as the impreza 5spd as it nearly the same transmission. It has a little higher final ratio so that reduces the load it sees vs. an impreza. Just don't drop the clutch/launch it, keep the fluid fresh and it will treat you well enough. I destroyed my tranmission at the drag strip with a verry aggressive launch but was putting down 345+ tq at the wheels (over 400 at the crank). But I had previously launched on the street with no issues (drag strips are TACKY!).

Thanks very much for your help guys.my car has 74k on it so should be ok.I had laugh control and flatfoot shifting etc on the impreza but I understand the fozzy ecu doesnt have those functions available.Bring on some decent power.

Another benefit of the stock clutch is that it *might/should* be weaker than the transmission so it will slip rather than breaking the tranny.
Although it might shorten the life of both the clutch and tranny, we can have launch control and flat foot shifting :) At least I have it activated via the Cobb AP.

It's the Cobb AP, here's a link to a list of it's features. Launch control and FFS are at the bottom of the page:
COBB Tuning - Subaru AccessPORT It costs more than open source tuning but comes with some generic maps that will enable you to make some select modifications without going to a tuner.
