I'm running the stock exhaust pipe diameter, not 3". The COBB downpipe I'm going to install is 3", but necks down to the stock exhaust pipe diameter.

if you're pulling everything apart you should probably try and snag a used STi uppipe for like $75 and throw that on there too... open everything up a bit and still have that nice sound youre looking for

If this is directed at the OP, he has an 07, STI uppipe is no upgrade.

I've got a Sebring exchaust on my tuned 2.5XT.
It gives the extra rarrww but not anoying. Driving with open windows in the parking garage is a lot of fun :) Lately I drove next to a Honda Civic from the early '90 with a tuned exchaust. The police let me passed and stopped the Honda.

That reminds me of this one time when we were running a TSD road rally, and we pulled up to a standoff located at a lookout point, with a circular access road. We had a little fun squaling the tires on the way up, and right behind us was a Honda S2000 (also a rally participant). Much to our surprise there was a cop standing at the side of the road as we rounded the corner at the top... but he didn't bat an eye at us - instead he pulled over the S2000, giving them a stern talking-to about "exhibition of speed."

We kinda felt bad for getting them into trouble, but they took it in good humor.

i was reading through these posts. i am debating to change my complete exhaust as well now totally stock. i came across 02-07 WRX & STI Megan Racing Type-2 Black Cat-Back Exhaust plus the matching megan racing down-pipe. i found several sound clips on youtube...very quiet rumble...i think im going to settle on this set up. 3" all the way total cost arround $500 plus install.
what do u guys think?

Another vote for magnaflow. It gives a very nice deep burble without being too ridiculous.

Also the turboXS "quiet" (ie the FXT-RMA) axle back -is- a bolt on magnaflow muffler.
