Howdy Guys,

I'm planning to commencing the installation of CAM Sprockets for an 04 XT.

--> http://www.subaruforester.org/vbulletin/6059002-post30.html

On reading the torque specs for these CAMS - I noticed that the torque values differ?

Am I reading this correctly? Haven't seen this referenced anywhere I've read/researched thus far.

Not a major issue just interested in anyone has noticed when they did this.....

Thx,

In my fsm it says to tighten them both to 21.8 ft/lbs, and then additional 45 degrees. When I did mine I put some oil on the threads, and a little bit of anti-sieze under the bolt heads, tightened to 22 ft/lbs then used a breaker bar to go the additional 45 degrees. I believe the older manuals for the WRX tell you torque to ~72 ft/lbs, which I'm pretty sure is about the equivalent of torquing to 22 and then the additional 45. I think either way you do it, you'll be good. Just want them nice and tight..obviously. I attached the page from my fsm.

@FXTrev - thx for the info.
Interesting how the specs differ b/w years (04 versus 05 FSM in this case).

Agree needs to be tight - going to go down the route --> 21.8 ft-lbs torque then employ breaker bar for the additional 45deg.

Cheers,

post note:
I actually tightened as per the 04 FSM specs.
--> INT Sprocket torqued to 21.8ft-lb then additional 45deg
--> EXT Sprocket torqued to 72.4ft-lb
