You need the 3" - 2" adapter they sell, same as you would need for any pipe except cobb's.

Do you happen to have a clip of your exhaust, inside and out?

Thanks

Default Is there anything as quiet as stock?

Hi guys,

My setup is a VF52 and a catless 3'' downpipe. Stock intercooler and catback.

Did a road tune a month ago. My tuner told me the top end was below full potential due to a restrictive catback. I would like to remove this restriction, however the car is my wife's daily driver and a baby hauler. She would kill me if the exhaust sound became loud.

Question: is there a way to get a better flowing catback without the extra noise? Which options I should look at? My wife typically drives below 3000 rpm, so the exhaust has to sound very close to stock below this mark.

What are my options?

Ros

You can get rid of the resonator and put in a straight piece of pipe and you don't notice it inside the cabin. But you'd have to keep the stock mufflers for that cause if you have no resonator on any other setup it's going to get noisy inside. Short of going for a full 3" CBE you're not going to get much more and remain silent.

What do you think is the bigger bottle neck in my current setup - the resonator or the mufflers?

Probably mufflers but keeping it quiet will require keeping them. But at least taking out the resonator is some improvement. I'm still running the stock mufflers for the moment. I love the quiet. You can always order a set of axle backs and a high flow resonator and tune it like that and if your wife wants it quiet most of the time swap the axle back for the original one for daily driving. It only takes about 10 minutes.

actually the resonator is very restrictive. if you get a chance cut one open. the pipe looks like it goes down to 1.5 inches. try getting a WRX/STI take off mid-pipe. they have a straight through style resonator for more flow. it is slightly louder but not very noticeable. or just get a glasspack to replace the resonator, any muffler shop will have them.

I dont have a resonator at all anymore. I cut it out almost as soon as I bought the car. Didn't make any major difference in noise in the car. I just had my CAT cut out as well. The only thing I have left is the mufflers.

But youre likely right about the resonator bring the most restrictive item. I noticed easier revs without it and quicker return to idle.
