Thumbs up Discount Tire Direct (merged thread)

Hello.

I have my issues with Discount Tire. However, on this issue I must give them the praise they deserve.

Their interactive wheel system is great. It quickly lets you see what your car will look like with a new set of rims. If you are like me and don't buy rims often it does a great job of showing you your ride before you buy.

Cheers

I agree. I put in my 3rd order with them this week. They always pack items well, ship quickly and the prices are the best I can find.

This system is pretty much the norm for all the mainstream tire and wheel shops though. Tirerack had it waaaaaaay long ago.

Default A great tire-buying experience at Discount Tire.

Traded in my '91 Loyale (204k+) for '01 Forester, and didn't know all tires needed to match because of AWD (what can I say? I thought I was well-informed, but that escaped me). Some very helpful folks on this forum reassured me, and I am grateful, but it was bugging me, so I decided to replace the tires and started getting quotes all over town. I am lucky to live in a small, laid-back city, where things are pretty easy going. I explained the story to each place, and none of them tried to up-sell me to more tire than I could afford (just bought a car, don't have a lot of disposable $$ at the moment), but none of the places I went at first really impressed me, either. I have always gone to Les Schwab, and their quote was fine, but it was also uninspiring. The creepy kid, who smelled bad, at Sears informed me in an imperious tone that if I didn't pay them to align the car, they wouldn't warranty their tires. He hadn't seen the car (it doesn't need an alignment) -- that is just their policy. Sigh.

I also was hoping to get some kind of trade in on the tires which were on the car when I bought it. They still have good life in them, and I hate to see them in a landfill. Because they are a sponsor of this wonderful forum, I drove across town to Discount Tire, with the on-line estimate sheet I had created from their site. The nice guy there, Jason, came outside and looked at the tires I had and offered me more in trade-in than I hoped to get (no-one else would give a trade-in of any kind on any tire, bah!), was honest about whether I should buy the more expensive thing I was considering (it was overpriced and unnecessary, just as I thought it was), and explained in a very non-pushy way the benefits of their life-time tire warranty thing, which I would never have gone for, but which actually seems a good deal, given the AWD tires issues and the fact that is cost less than the amount he was giving as trade for my old tires.

I made an appt. for Friday morning, when I will get my new tires, the extended warranty, and unload my old tires, all for less than of the other quotes I got. The whole thing took under 5 minutes, with no pressure at all. I am sold! Discount is my place, now!

Default Discount Tire Direct

I want to give a big shout out and a thank you to Discount Tire Direct for their excellent to outstanding service. I ordered a set of tires for the wifelet's Civic yesterday around 5:00PM and had the tires sitting on my front porch today by 1:00PM.

Now that's service
