Rally Forester

So, being that Rallying is one of my favorite sports, and Subaru's are good at it, I was hoping to see some Foresters doing this, and possibly converting mine to a Rally type. However, after searching for quite a while, I have only come up with 2 Dakar Foz's and 1 Rally Foz. Anyone else find or know were some can be found, or even exist?

It depends on what you are looking to do.

Paul did the Alcan 5000 in this Foz and won his class.

You might look for TSD events in your area. Time Speed Distance. They will require a co-driver and are a lot of fun. They range from 2hrs to multi day events.
In general, this rally cross is inexpensive and a stock Foz does just fine. Mine is slightly lowered with 17" rims and shorter side walls and I've had no problems. Did install a skidplate and diff protector though. Entry fees are between $30 - $100 per driver.
2 hour local TSD events can be as cheap as $20.
Both sports need more participants. Some events in SoCal have been canceled at the last moment due to lack of participation.
Look at joining SCCA or NASA and keep tabs on your region.

Hope this whets your appetite.

^^ What he said...

For most TSD and Gimmick rallies you won't need any specialized equipment except for a very accurate clock (preferably one that counts 1/100s of a minute). TSD rallies are usually written to be completed at or below the speed limit on public roads.

There are endurance/adventure rallies, which are partially off-road in desert or snow conditions, and "brisk gravel TSD" rallies, like the ALCAN 5000, which require higher speeds than a normal TSD.

Stage rallies (similar to WRC) are a whole different ballgame though... you'll need a specially built car with safety equipment (seats, harnesses, rollcage etc.) and it takes place at high speeds on closed roads. They also require a trained co-driver, a pit crew (to put your car back together at the end of the day), and lots and lots of money to support this habit.

The best way to familiarize yourself with rallying is really to work a rally. RallyAmerica has them all over the country, and they always need volunteers as courseworkers, for timing controls, spectator marshals, etc. It's a great way to be close to the action, rub elbows with the drivers, and interact with the teams.

Here's a few pics from the Magellan Adventure Rally a few years ago...

Thanks for the great info. I was also looking for good examples of Foresters that have been rallied, but it seems that they are not as popular as say the Impreza. But non the less, good work with yours pleiad7! Looks great!

Check out rallycrossing. Think of it as Autocross, but instead of a parking lot, it's on a empty field.

one of my old cars...

google "forester rallycross" and you'll get some pics & videos

I too am surprised that hardly no one has built a WRC Forester. I for one fully plan to. It will take a very long time, but I see no other option for a Subaru, no matter what model it is.

Smile Rally winning FORESTERS

I have a customer running rallies in India in a Forester, and we have won the Alcan 5000 Rally in two different ones (my gold one and my black one) This year we were leading when it grenaded the motor one day from the finish and a win... sniff, sniff. I'm in love with that aluminum bumper. Primitive, you are awesome, I've seen a few homemade ones but they don't even compare to yours. I am seriously considering a rallycross build instead of my autocross build plans.
