I know two people who have seen the Subaru Stella in CA. Has anyone else seen them in the US? The funny thing is one sighting was in San Francisco and the other in Orange County. I wonder if they were left side drive. Hybrid testing? These people need cameras!
I see several covered testing cars on the freeway but no Subes. http://www.subaru.co.jp/stella/ |

Might be for ad campaigns, both print and tv. As Silke can remind us, the Tribeca was being driven around NorCal and those scenes eventual made it into some ads.
It would be great if Subaru re-enters the minicar market, now that Honda, Toyota, and Nissan have done so.

That makes sense. I remembered they shot this photo down the street from me for the Toyota Voltz, the Japanese model of the Matrix.

The wifey is waiting for the new Suby small car, hopefully this is a good sign!
When she gets that I'll be rocking a lifted OBS! (as a winter/offroad car) Forester struts/springs + a 4 in lift and 33's

^Got this link in an email from Subaru Customer Services Dept. Looks like a big improvement over those golf cart-like Neighborhood Electric Vehicles. 62 mph. 50 mile range-- pretty good from just a 9KWh battery pack! 11' long, 4.8' wide, 5.5' height, 2,300 lbs. It's good to hear the new Subie prototype is being tested in CA, but it seems they have no specific plans to sell them or the new diesel boxer engine in the U.S. Isn't that puzzling? In my area, the fuel cost for a Stella is about $5.40 per 300 miles. They wrote, "Subaru is committed to being a world leader in electric powered vehicles. The Subaru R1e is our vision of the future. Based on the Subaru R1 minicar sold in Japan, the R1e was developed by Subaru in partnership with the Tokyo Electric Power Company, Inc. (TEPCO). As part of a U.S. test program, two of the Subaru R1e electric cars will join the New York Power Authority (NYPA) fleet. The two-seat Subaru R1e is capable of driving at speeds up to 65 mph with a range of up to 50 miles. It can be charged up to 80 % capacity within 15 minutes or fully charged overnight at home using a regular domestic outlet. The R1e is already proving itself in major urban areas such as Tokyo and London." Last edited by markvanh : 07-01-2008 at 12:44 PM. |

Not as cool as a forester. Now if they were tom start importing the Sambar:
SUBARU : 車種紹介 > Dias Wagon That would be awesome! I'll be needing a smallish truck and i was jsut telling the wife the other day how cool it would be if Subaru made a light truck so i wouldn't have to but an old toyota truck or a mahindra when they hit the shores. LMAO! You got that right. Ever feel invisible driving your Forester? My standing joke with friends & family is the Subie has stealth technology.
Cool link about the Diesel Hybrid trucks coming. We desperately need a de-throning revolution like happened in the freight train industry, now have Electric-powered with diesel-generator locomotives that deliver super high mileage "a ton of freight over 400 miles on one gallon of fuel".
