IS it me, or Subaru has been unusually quiet about the 2009 Impreza models? We're already in mid-June, and there is no info at all. No idea of release dates, ordering info, nothing. Do you think they have something special in mind with the 2009 WRX? Or, do you think it's just because there are still so many of them sitting around dealerships still?

I think they will ditch the S-GT bodywork for the WRX and give it the STI fenders to differentiate it from the plain vanilla models. That will come along with some minor suspension tweaks to go with the wide fenders. I wouldn't expect any engine changes for '09 but MY2010 may bring the new generation H4 with direct injection. The rest of the Imprezas will likely remain the same as '08 with only minor detail or option package changes.

I don't think they will change a thing on the impreza unti MY 2010. They just did a complete overhaul for 08, 2010 will be the face lift. I'm sure the success of the 09 Forester has had a part in the lack of news.

I am not so sure that SUbaru will touch it until 2010. Maybe some minor changes to fix the paint chip issues etc....BTW...sales of impreza has been up from previous years...

The 08 impreza already has the shiftronic AT & VDC.

The 2009 USDM Impreza models should arrive at dealers mid August/September. Externally there will be only a few minor changes...the big news will be the in the drivetrain.

I'm bound by a confidentiality clause that keeps me from giving details...so don't even ask...

Honestly, I'd just be happy if navigation is going to be an option on the automatic WRX models. I'd also like to see the door panels from the Forester get put on the Impreza line. Not really looking for anything more than that.

A reliable insider source (SOA) told me last year that the 09 STI would be available in a sedan/4-door version.

So 42% of Impreza buyers opted to pay 500 USD more for the hatch, and that's seen as a clear preference for the 4 door?

I'm toying with getting a Jetta TDI for my next car (cross shopping against 2009 Impreza), and much as I like the SportWagen, I'm not paying the premium for it. No doubt some idiot will point to the higher sedan sales for the Jetta TDI as a sign that Americans hate wagons too.
