I have owned a few including 98 Bilstein liberty, 2004 Forester XS and now this 2009.

This is the best one yet. Comfortable, Big ( I am 6"4") on the inside, Small on the outside (still alot taller than the old one though) Quiet, fun to drive and now FASTER!!!

Default XA - tune only?

Faster (love this thread). With the XA tune, did I read right that they pulled up around 25kW with just the stock exhaust?

If so, did the MRT guys mention if they thought the stock exhaust "OK", or a bit restrictive or flows well even if it is quiet?

It flows well enough to give you a guaranteed 15kw improvement but more importantly look at the torque increase.

By the way XA will be a tune only as the exhaust is fine for a stage one level of power increase. Ring MRT for a price, plus with MRT you get their warranty guarantee.

Sounds like a plug but in truth I don't know the pricing, and the guarantee was the reason I went with MRT.

I did the run up the 1.1km hill this morning

XA type tune with XB exhaust 26.3sec (174km/h)

I am updating the first post with ongoing times. So the exhaust without tune and extra boost is more than 2 secs quicker. Hopefully I get a run at the hill with the full XB treatment.

Default ta.

Thanks Faster - you are going to have a bit of a weapon by the time they are finished it looks like.......!

If the tune is reasonable $$ that would be a nice upgrade. But I wouldn't mind a bit of burble from the pipes - they are too quiet for something moderately quick.

If you mean Rev to 4 or 5000 rpm and sidestep the clutch to acheive the best possible time. NO.....Subaru 5 speeds don't last long that way...

I really enjoy my Forester for driving, hilly mountain passes and hopefully some track days. I don't need to or want to break it for a 100m time.

Once I get a standard car to run up the 1.1km run I use you will get a good indication of performance.

I dropped the car off again to MRT for the XB dyno tune, I am looking foward to seeing the numbers.

This week they have Hyperflow doing a large TMIC this week, as well as the turbo (VF34) swap and I believe a different intake.

The drone from the exhaust is being sorted at as well. Apparently it is easy to eliminate.

MRT are also complementing the Front and Rear Bars with an anti-lift kit and castor ajustment hopefully, which should produce additional camber when the wheels are off center. I am hoping this will give the best of both worlds, camber when you need it in a turn and good tyre wear for highway use.

I have yet to decide if I will lower it. I know it would look great and handle a little better. But bunnies, wombats, kangaroos and Magpies often cross my roads. I have had couple of close ones already, I hit a magpie on Wednesday and in addition to the magpie ran over a echidna

The echidna was last week in my ute, and killed it due to it being lowered. I guess wombats and kangaroos are still vunerable even with all the clearance of the Foz.

Your joking right?
No. I mean take off at 3000 rpm and change gears and accelerate hard. My ****ty old my04 auto has been pushing 230kw along for over 2 years now with many many hard starts without a blip. It's not the most refined box in the world but it's strong. I'm interested because I believe even with 230+ kw it won't get close to 6 seconds. The auto probably won't break 7 seconds.
I heard the suby manuals were really poor. I guess your just backing that up.
There is a reason EVERY new car review has a 0-100 figure because it's a very good indicator of the cars performance. Even MRT quote 0-100 figures for their xc kit. I'll guess we will have to wait for the mrt review who will do the 0-100 without a doubt. Probably in your car.

So your upset? A slush box like yours will cope with stalling at 3k and taking off , but cannot ever be a fun or as fast as a manual on a mountain pass. The 5 speed is not as strong for launching as the auto, and most 5 speeds are stuffed whilst trying to get either 100m times or 400m times. The only way to get the best time is to sidestep the clutch and with out the torque converter to cushion the power something may break.

I will happilly let you drive it for a 100m time,.... if you can drive a manual, as long as you sign an agreement to repair or replace any broken bits afterwards.

Lets see you put your money down first.

And no I wasn't joking, I did hit and Echidna......

I have to argee with Faster here, to get the fastest possible time the risk of doing damage to the gearbox is just to risky for me to take.

We all know its will be quick, but i wouldnt be trying to set the time unless i didnt care about my car.

I think an 80km/hr to 100/110km/hr rolling test would be best. Its something that everyone can do on their own and compare apples with apples.

I am picking it up tomorrow and I will happily do a 80-110 test.

Which gear
4th gear is 1:1 and for comparison most gearboxes have a 1:1 ratio. If I use third it will give me better times as it will be in the power band, but there is no guarantee that all boxes will have the same ratios, so it will only be a comparison of speed and time not engine power.
