Replacement gas cap tether

I have a 2009 2.5x Forester. The plastic tether for the gas cap has broken. Does anyone know of a good repair for this, or do I just get a new gas cap and hope it comes with a new tether as well?

The tethers used to be available separately on the older models, but for your Forester it looks like you'll have to buy a new fuel cap assembly. The part number is 42031AG000.

Universal fit should work. The cap is pretty common type.

A critical Amazon reviewer gave up and used peel-and-stick Velcro to temporarily stow the cap to the fuel door.

I've ordered the universal fit tether. I'll report back on how well it works. Thanks in advance.

The Dorman 55300 appears to work. I'm not so sure about the plastic screw that attaches the tether to the fuel filler door (the kit comes with several, in different sizes), but we'll hope it holds. The attachment to the gas cap itself is a 3/4 ring of spring steel that fits easily in the recess that was occupied by the original plastic tether.

Thanks to everyone for the help and suggestions.
