Default Diamon-Fusion windshield treatment

Anyone here who has experience with this treatment? I had no idea such a product existed, until a friend pointed me to it yesterday. I'm getting my windshield replaced in the next few days, so I'm seriously looking into having this done.

From what I gather it's a coating that improves vision and resists pitting and breakage by strengthening the windshield glass. Apparently the next best thing to a personal force field.

From the Diamon-Fusion website:
Quote:
Automotive Glass - Buses/Trains/ Subways, etc. There are many differential advantages Diamon-FusionŽ holds over any other hydrophobic coating. DFI’s technology can be applied in the field, on existing vehicles, as well as new vehicles with an industrial-type application. Every other treatment being marketed as a coating for auto glass are only selling on the attribute of making the drivers vision clearer in bad weather and making the windshield easier to clean. Diamon-FusionŽ not only offers those benefits, but also makes the glass harder to scratch or break. (see test results: an object must weigh ten times more to cause the same damage to a Diamon-FusionŽ treated surface than an untreated one).

In addition, Diamon-FusionŽ has improved durability, being less affected by the abrasion caused by the windshield wipers.

Diamon-FusionŽ also aids in the removal of snow and ice, a benefit that is of much greater value in certain regions of the world.

Interesting. My current windshield is extremely pitted (it has held up to cracks better than any other but has pitted far quicker than my previous ones) Might be worthwhile to try it out on the next one.

If it's anything like this stuff:

http://www.diamondite.com/diamondite...ction-kit.html

It's not very good. I tried that kit and it was just OK and did not "fill" any of the imperfections in the glass. More of a glorified rain-x

I think it's different than that... like it says on the website, it's does much more than just improve vision and make the glass smoother/easier to clean. The Diamon-Fusion actually makes the glass harder to break and more impervious to impacts. It's also professionally applied, not a DIY kit.

I'm not sure yet what the cost is, I'll find out in the next few days...

I guess it's like the anti-scratch coating they put on eyeglasses.
I don't have a control group for the glasses, but I always get the coating and always suffer scratched lenses that are annoying after a year and need replacement before two.

I have owned my Forester for 4 months and 7300 miles and have lots of little pockmarks and pits already. I don't think I've ever had car glass that was this poor. While it may be the orientaion and performance of the vehicle rather than the glass - I sure would like a clear view ahead...

Agreed.

The "untreated" on that page is very obviously just a photoshop filter.
Pretty poor.

Yeah, the pics are pretty ridiculous... However, the person I was talking to had this done to two of his Subies, and he swears by it.

Those example pictures are horrible! If your glass looks like the "untreated" versions your car is undriveable!

I'm the one who's had it done to two of my Subies, and the Jeep I've got here and the GTI I've got here and... I've had one major rock hit my windshield with no damage. It was a nice loud "crack" but no crack.

It will not fill pitted windshields, it does make your car glass stronger but won't repair damage.

It does also act like a Super RainX but that lasts about 6 months before you need to reapply a coating of one of the chemicals. Something about waxes and other stuff building up over time on the glass from cleaning your car.

It's not that expensive to have done either and it is good insurance against having your windshield break. So far I've not had any problems with cracks or stars. For me it's an easy way to avoid possibly dealing with a broken windshield.

It's easy to say it doesn't work from looking at a website but you won't know until you try it, right?

Ooo, I never clean my car so I bet it would last forever!

I'm looking into that 3M Crystaline Window film. I might try and pick some of it up, but haven't looked enough to see if it comes in tint. Applying that to the windshield, apparently, reduced quite a bit of glare at night. If this diamon stuff does the trick, then a combination of the two on a PPG windshield could make for a really killer setup. How much is the Diamon stuff? Super expensive?
