Default 2010 Forester Splash Guards

I was wondering if the factory Splash Guards/Mud Flaps actually do what they are intended? They seem a bit small but the alternative rally armor is huge and stands out.

If they are the same as the 09 gaurds (I think they are) then they provide little protection. I drive on gravel Forest Service roads a fair amount, and the bottom corners of the rear doors and the black molding on the bottom are getting chewed up. I even have the larger clear gaurds on the doors that were replaced under a TSB (The early 09s had small 3M sheets there). Clearly there is some sort of design flaw here. I think I am going to give in and fork over the cash for the Rally Armor flaps. I think if you have the wheel arch molding then the flaps from RA will not appear to stick out much, but those are kinda spendy too.
