Refresh post status after "Mark this forum read"

On other forums that I follow, when I use the "Mark this forum read" command, the read/unread status of posts is immediately updated. For example, the bold font used for unread posts is changed to the plain font used for read posts.

Could that feature be implemented in these forums? It's a nice acknowledgement that the command was accepted and updates were made.

Hey there,

This feature is available under the New posts section of the site.
When you read the thread, the bold font switches to normal font.

Does that help achieve what you are looking for?

Richard.

No it doesn't. I don't use the New Posts section. Instead, I navigate to each of my subscribed forums and read the threads that interest me. When I'm finished with a subscribed forum, I click the Forum Tools -> Mark this forum read menu choice. This does mark all the threads in the forum read (as desired) but the displayed web page does not change to reflect the new status.

The layout and menu choices of these forums are very similar to other forums I follow. On those, as soon as "Mark this forum read" is clicked, the font of the unread thread subjects immediately changes from bold to plain. Since this forum is so similar, I thought there might be a simple option you could check to enable this functionality.

Thanks for responding so promptly.

@Administrator The forum wide Quick Links "Mark Forums Read" works as the op has requested and the Forum Tools function also works for me

Hey thanks for mentioning this/ I was looking for a way to eliminate scanning thru various threads.

I'm full of knowledge when it comes to repairs and maintenance. But this techy stuff at times has me scratching my ole' head.

I prefer & use the "classic forum skin".

I view the forum via the Quick Links > Today's Posts.

After I view a post/thread & go back to the list, the thread is not marked as read until I reload the page. Then the read thread goes from bold text to normal test.

It's not individual threads but the ability to mark an entire forum as read (up to that point in time)--a signal to the member that all in that forum has been 'processed' so as to ease the scan for new stuff the next time he looks.

I navigate by New Posts, and dimming individual threads works as you describe. New skin.

Doesn't Quick Links > Mark Forums Read mark the entire forum as read?

Once I do that, all post/threads change from bold text to normal text.

^ yes, but it's the entire site marked as read not individual threads. I use Classic Skin.

^ Yes, but it hasn't been an issue for how I peruse the forums.

I see if I log off, just tried it, without marking the forum as read, it will be marked as read by just logging off.

If you are not signed in, the site doesn't track whether or not you have read something or not, so they will all be marked the same. Only tracks for members

This is similar to the behavior I see ... posts change from bold to normal text on a page refresh. Other sites make the change immediately.

According to my CP, I'm using the "Default" skin.

FWIW, I use Firefox v50.1.0. I tried it in Chrome and there was no difference.

See what you mean now. Can you give me an example site where you see this feature is working automatically without refreshing? Want to see if I can compare settings.

What the tool should do I think is automatically refresh the page for you, but I'll reserve guess work till I double check
