What happens if you try http:// 66 dot 18 dot 160 dot 146 instead of the URI? If this works, then you have a DNS problem.

Edit. I notice this resolves as Audi forum, which is interesting as that IP address (66.18.160.146) is what is resolved from www dot subaruforester dot org.

Edit #2. Me thinks there is a DNS problem with these forums. These URIs and IP addresses should not conflict like this.

Edit #3 (and curse this site for insisting on resolving URIs when not asked to! The spaces in the URIs below do not exist):
C:\>nslookup www . subaruforester . org
Server: iGateway
Address: 192.168.2.3

Non-authoritative answer:
Name: www . subaruforester . org
Address: 66.18.160.146

Tried the numbers and dots to no avail. I've checked my firewall and internet security settings and nothing is blocked.... I guess I just need to make sure I come to work all the time.

What exactly did you see when you tried the dotted decimal IP address? As I indicated later in my post for some reason it re-resolves to an Audi forum, but can I take it you didn't see that either? If so, something is messed up in your computer's networking.

(There does appear to be a DNS registration problem independent of your computer. A dotted decimal IP address found from a lookup of a URI should not result in a different site being found when it is used.)

Post what you see, what operating system you are using, and what firewall you are using (software (e.g. Zonealarm) and/or hardware (e.g. wireless router)), and let's see if we can't figure this out.

It will if the site is host-headered.

Ok, so if the dotted decimal address gets you to the Audi forums, but www dot subaruforester dot org does not get you to the SF forums, it very strongly suggests you have a DNS lookup problem. What operating system are you using?

The dotted address just showed me the "Internet explorer cannot find the webpage" screen. We recently switched from a local IP to Comcast WiFi. I tried using my wife's laptop with the same results.

My PC uses the Microsoft firewall as well as McAfee (hasn't been updated in a year or so, though)....

This is my last day at work until August 18th, so I'm out for awhile after today....

This sounds like a 404 error. Please turn off "Show friendly HTTP error messages" in Internet Options and try again: this time you should see an error code. Please post exactly what it says. A screen shot would be could (you can copy the current window to the clipboard by pressing Alt-PrintScreen).

You should not use two software firewalls at the same time. They can conflict with each other, and make debugging almost impossible. I suggest you get the McAfee firewall updated, or if you would need to and don't want to pay for an update, remove it and install the free Comodo firewall instead. Then turn off the Windows firewall.

Default Miracle !

Doc - you still facing the problem ?

I was not able to log in at all from home - tried all suggestions posted here - and finally gave up - for the last few months was away from the site.

I wanted to switch from VOIP to Time warner digital phone and the technician came in yesterday. Thought i'd have him take a look at my internet connection as well - as my isp is also from time warner.

I tried logging in just before he arrived - same problem - would not load.
Then I wanted to show him the problem and tried logging in before him - and wtf - the page loads !!! works like a charm

No idea what happenned and what fixed it - but im glad to be back on board.

I still can't get on and will probably contact my ISP to see if they have any suggestions. Sounds like you experienced what sometimes happens when I take my car to the shop with a problem... it only "works" for me and the mechanic will say "I couldn't find any problems".

edit: I just logged in from home after doing....nothing!! Weird...
