The staff asked the site owners to look into a capability to automatically shrink posted images that overflow typical screen sizes and interfere with easy navigation of the site. The app they found was not very well thought out. It shrunk everything, even if it was already a good fit.

We'll ask them to remove it and look around to see if there might be a better one available.

We have been looking at these options in VB4.0 and nothing looks to work well. I think if it were me I would revert back and let it go until something comes out that only affects "new" posts, replies or topics if this is even possible.

If images are too large, people could easily report them but I do not recall this being a problem from all of the threads I have looked at on here.

I do agree on the "report this image" button and that there should be a size limit for pics that it is allowed to touch.

The layout doesn't bother me as like Tuned, I am a stacker when I post images. Simply because I do know some forums will automatically do so.

I have put the request in for it to be removed.

Glad to hear it. I'll echo what everyone has already said. I see nothing wrong with limiting the size of photos, but the way this solution is implemented is poor in almost every way. There's a better solution/app/plug-in out there.

I decide to wait a month to see where this goes. It's been a month since I started this thread & I'm going to guess the way it is, is the way it's going to stay. Am I correct?

We're still not keen on the intrusive 'report this image' thing, but it does seem to be working in its role of appropriately shrinking the large images while leaving the ones that fit untouched.

After dealing with the new format for a while, I strongly feel that the shrunken images in nearly every picture thread (many of which aren't that big to begin with) constitute a far more annoying problem than the old issue of occasional threads with overly large images. Just my $0.02.

I agree there already is a report this post button in every post. We certainly don't need two.

Also can we lose the "This image has been resized. Click this bar to view the full image."
Surely by now everyone knows that you can click on images to expand them. It just takes up space and clutters up the site when we have it on every single photo.

For that matter I'm in favor of just getting rid of it all together.

My research tells me the automatic image reduction optimizes the screen image to 640x480. This image size is optimal for 14" monitor screen. I'm thinking this size screen would be had to find these days on a desktop computer?

It appears any image larger than 800x600 is resized. This image size is optimal for 15" monitor screen. Other than my old outdated laptop, all my computer have larger screens.

What I find annoying is to click on the bar to restore the resized image, to see little if any size difference.... 640x480 to 800x600!

If this automatic image resizing is here to stay, if the resizing threshold could be upped a bit, I could live with it. In my opinion, there's no need to reduce a 800x600 image size to 640x480.

Not every one is surfing via a desktop or larger laptop/notebook that size wise could be considered a desktop replacement. With all the netbooks, tablets and now smaller ultra portable sub 16" laptops/ultrabooks, some approaching netbook screen sizes, it is not as simple as what you have in front of you. It is what may some one else have infront of them.

On the rare occasion I am surfing via my desktop, 21" and 32" screen combo, pics are not an issue even when some one posts a monstrous hi-res image.

On the other hand when I am out in the garage on a 10.1" netbook. Makes a great low budget garage surfing machine for DIY threads or to keep others busy and you don't feel bad when a $150 netbook hits the ground.

Most of our friends and family have a cheap netbook/tablet that is not password secured and is connected to a secured/unsecured guest network for any visitors to use. It saves a guests at your place from needing you to log on for them to use your PC or from them having to lug around their laptop...... As a visitor just grab the netbook/tablet and help yourself. The open guest network allows their smartphone to automatically join your guest network for any browsing they may do on it. When out and about at families or friends on a Ipad, tablet or netbook those large pics are rather annoying and the small resized pics have been a pleasure.

I get both sides as I experience both, however it isn't worth an argument from me just because I often see the site on a small screen too. All I have to say is, it has been requested to be removed and I will repeat that request shortly.

MO, when you get the chance, make the image resizer gone. The masses don't like it.

One month later bump...

At this point I've come to accept that this is how things are going to be. An update would be nice though - Is this how it is or are we still waiting on a fix?

I haven't heard anything further on this, so I suppose this is how it's going to stay.
