I see changes have been made to how our images are displayed. I normally post my images resized on Photobucket to fit my post, so I don't see the need to resize then again?
![]() In addition, where I had 2 small images side-by-side are now stacked on top of each other. It makes my write ups look odd & my referring to the pictures as on the "left" & "right" no longer apply. ![]() I'm sure there's a reason for these changes, but it sure looks strange. Bobby... See YOU and some others may be on the ball, but too many others don't take the extra time.
It sucks to look at pictures in threads like this one below(not picking on the OP just using it as an example), and when there is a simple built in tool we can use on the forum..... It is easier then yelling at every one to resize their pics. We still can't get members to fill out their profile in some cases. If there was a tool for that I would be all over it. ('03-'05) ebay perchased importology/xcessmotors front lip and grille combo! - Subaru Forester Owners Forum It may make some work for a few to correct some posts(I have a few I need to address) but I think it will be better in the long run. |

This new forum tool resizes pictures that are already resized? What target size that you're shooting for?
![]() The largest image I post is 800 x 600, which I consider extra large. Then 640 x 480, which I call large. Either of these image sizes will display without scrolling (to the right). On many posts I use two side-by-side images that are 320 x 240, which I call medium size. I can add text above these, referring to them as the "left" or "right" picture. With the new forum tool that was enabled, these images were changed from side-by-side to one on top of the other. I'm curious as to why these smaller images were affected, as they were not resized? ![]() Here's an example of how the forum tool reformated my write up images. Bobby... I agree with Bobby... This is ridiculous. I'm sure there's a plugin that only affects images which are larger than the allowed size. It seems the current image resizing tool affects every image which is, in all honesty, lame.

I understand why it's being done, but never really considered it a huge problem on here. I will say though the pictures look like thumbnails now on a 27" high-res iMac screen, lol.

I always resize my images in Photobucket to 640x480, that way I can keep my browser view size at 100% and not have to scroll side to side to see the whole picture (MBP 15" Retina display).
On another forum I participate in, it simply doesn't allow you to post images that are bigger than 640x480...much more efficient IMO and it forces people to take the extra couple minutes to resize their photos before posting, instead of just slapping a monster size image in their post. I find the "report this image" kind of intrusive as well; I don't think inappropriate images are a big problem on such a good forum as this one. If I find an inappropriate image, I just report the post. None of this really bothers me, but of course I don't have as complex & detailed write-ups like Bobby. Just my .02

I can see how this would potentially mess with the formatting you have in place Bobby. I myself prefer the stacked image layout with text between each image so there is no doubt as to what image you are referring to, vs the side by side.
The size aspect limit must be to increase forum response time and keep it from lagging when loading larger images, so I agree with that. A few threads on here ask for large images, such as the wallpaper thread and so on, but the majority of the sizes (99%) do no affect my speed here my connection speed at home on broadband or even on my mobile.

I agree, it doesn't add to the layout & seems overly redundant to me.
This has messed up my write ups to the point I don't think I want to spend the time to correct them... if that's even possible? I spent an enormous amount of time making my Member Journals something I'm proud to have my name on. Now, not so much. I'm considering "throwing in the towel" & removing all the images, which would be a simple matter of deleting the images in Photobucket. ![]() Here's an example of what this has has done to my one of my image posts. The dealer sticker is actually 2 pictures, when placed side-by-side, with no space = one image. Now it's split into two & looks strange! Look at all that dead, unused space on the page. I don't see why this image wasn't left side-by-side? ![]() Bobby... August 21, 2003 ['07 FSXT MODding Journal] ['03 X MODding Journal]

It was a good try, but I'm with Bobby on the way it turned out.
I still think it would be a good idea if better implemented. Declare a maximum size, and shrink anything that's bigger than that. Period. And lose the 'report' link. Meanwhile, Bobby, don't do anything rash.

I'm not digging the in-your-face "report this image" button... and yes, I agree the re-sizer does mess with layout. It would be a useful tool if properly implemented, but I see no point in something that automatically resizes images that are already reasonable (as in, 800 or so pixels on the longest side) in size. If it only applied to humongous pictures to get them back in line for easier viewing, I could get behind it.

We already have the Report Post icon over at the left (shaped like a warning sign), and that's certainly sufficient to notify the staff of a post that's not right, be it the text or the image. (Mostly this has been used to report spam, but occasionally somebody does step over the line of our ethic and it has to be cleaned up.)
Let's return to the way things used to be till a better resizing app becomes available.
