Sorry if this is a newb question, but here it goes.
I have a 2007 forester with a factory installed MOMO leather steering wheel with audio system controls on the wheel. The audio system is a double din 6 cd changer. The one that comes standard with the car. I would like to change it for a unit that has a USB input for a portable hard disk that I could put in the glove compartment, and also if possible, bluetooth. I'm not interested in DVD, video, navigation. Which unit should I use in order for my steering wheel controls to remain functional, or is there an adapter that I can use. Thanks in advance! |

There is a company called Pacific Accessory Corporation that sells adapter units that will interface with both the steering wheel controls and most main stream head units. The adapter will let you utilize the OEM steering wheel controls with the HU. I am using one with my Momo LegacyGT steering wheel (I believe it's the same one you have) I that I installed into my 06 Forester. Here is my install
LegacyGT SpecB steering wheel installed Here are the adapter PAC sells (based on HU I think) Products When I was looking up compatible units the Forester was not listed (maybe because steering wheel controls were not available in the US) so I went with the model compatible with the Legacy and it works great!

Thanks for the prompt reply.
The steering wheel looks exactly like the one you have in your post. PAC sells the ECL2 now, maybe that could do the trick. I will e-mail them and ask about the details, as soon as I decide which 2 DIN unit to install Any suggestions? I was thinking about this: FH-P80BT Pioneer Car Audio - CD Player - CarĀ*Entertainment |

If your deck doesn't have a wired remote input then you're kind of sol for clean, easy integration. PAC also makes a universal swc adaptor (SWI-X) that uses infared like a regular remote control would. It depends on what kind of deck you have as to whether or not it will work for you. Bad news is the infared transmitter needs line-of-sight to your deck face so it's kind of a pain to mount. Good luck.

Post what model HU you have. The HU has to be able to be comtrolled by a wired remote for the main PAC units to work. As Jermany mentioned they do have a universal version that I assume will learn the functions of your HU's remote (assuming it has one) and has an IR eye commected to the PAC unit that's installed in the car. It wouldn't be that hard to do and while it has to be line of sight, i'm sure there are a hundred places to install it.

Pioneer DEH-P7050BT. It has an aux in and a system mute, so i also figured i would be able to hook up the sat nav lady to come through the speakers as well!??!! Anyone know the specs on the factory sat nav on the 06 foresters?? And if i could do it this way? The sound is so much better! but alas i have lost the steering wheel controls and sat nav so the missus is none too pleased!
