My rear view mirror has crapped out and need to replace
I just bought a standard mirror at autozone
I see all the videos about heating up the metal and having it drop off the windshield
The issue is that what is glued to the windshield seems to have a plastic coating on it and I am hesitant to apply heat
Any tips? Thanks
The mirror just twists... turns to remove. No need to apply heat, which could loosen the adhesive on the glass mount! :icon_eek:
Take a look at my write up for installing an auto dimming mirror here in my Member Journal. The factory installation instructions are attached to that post & they show how to remove the old mirror.
I need to remove the adhesive and everything in order to put a completely new set up on
The part that is attached to the glass is what I am trying to remove
Why bother? Spend $10 for the cam mount to wedge mount adapter. It's an OEM Subaru part. I wouldn't want to mess with installing a new mount to the glass.
Or I could sell you the cam mount Donnelly mirror I just pulled out of our WRX.
Okay, removing the stock mirror mount to install an aftermarket mount & mirror.
Sorry, I don't have any experience removing those. My quick internet search says heat with a hairdryer until the adhesive softens & the mount releases from the glass.
One thing to keep in mind is if you have the windshield replaced, the mount the new windshield will come with will be for the stock Subaru mirror. :icon_eek:
