Darn...this is ruining our eBay business!!
Oh well, better to share to show you care. I bring the "broken" ones home from work or from returns from the independent shops who buy them...fix them, and hand them over to Pleiad7 to sell on eBay.

Nothing wrong with that. There are many many "Mechanically Declined" or Mechanically Challanged" people out there. And even more Parts Swappers who don't even know what a soldering iron is. These are the people who NEED you and Silke to hold up your end and keep their Subarus with working clocks.

Thanks for the info on the fix, it saved me $70.00. As an aside,I too, like to drive with my lights on "for safety" and have been disappointed with how dim the clock is during the day. While I had the clock out to re-solder the 510 gizmo, I noticed that one of the leads for the clock was labeled light. This got me thinking, and I decided to remove that lead. When I tested the clock, not only did it work (thanks again) but when I turned on my headlights the clock did not get dim (yeah!). So anyone who wants daytime headlight use and a readable clock (even with polarized sunglasses) this is a simple fix. I did tape off the lead just in case it touched something it should not. To remove the lead I used a needle to lift up on the plastic catch holding it in place, took a few tries but it was worth it.

Another thank you! My "brand new to me" 2001 Forester came with a dead clock. Fixed it in a jiffy.
A note to newbies, don't be afraid. Your solder job can't look worse than mine. In fact, I got solder in places it shouldn't be, and had to try to clean it up. (And if you actually DO toast it completely, I hear someone on this board sells them on Ebay.) Clock works! Oh, and I disconnected the "dimming" feature too, so I can keep my lights on during the day. |

Clock in a pod in the ceiling? I assume all 01's are the same.
(I think the instructions are in this thread already somewhere.) The pod that the clock is in is just stuck up there with some clips. Wrap a rag around a flat head screwdriver so you don't scratch things up and stick it in there and pop it out. Once you have the pod out, you just unclip the plug and you can see how the clock is clipped into the back of the pod. |
