Wow did this thread save me some headaches! My clock finally completely died so I went to the local "parts garden" and picked up not one but TWO clocks. Neither clock worked! Great now I have 3 dead clocks. After reading this post, I cracked the first one open to discover that 510 had partially come off the board. A little soldering and it was FIXED. I decided to crack the other 2 open to discover that 510 was bad on both. And one also had a loose 300. Wow, whoever was responsible for 510 and 300 soldering at the plant had a bad week I guess

Default Clock Fixed

You rock! Thank you. My clock died completely this week after flickering for awhile. After reading your post, I had it fixed in less than ten minutes!

Default thanks!

The 510 was loose, a bit of solder did the trick.

If only fixing the leaky head gasket had been so easy/cheap...

Cheers,

I got mine fixed the other day, it took me ten minutes whilst our work server was down!

Tom.

Default Thanks for the Tip

Just signed up to say that I tried this fix (as my clock wasn't working) and after the solder touch up all is well. Once again thanks to the OP.

Talking Hallelujah!

My Forester is new to me. I bought it about 10 days ago. While I was driving off the Carmax lot, my son (10) asked me, "why doesn't the clock work?" So, I went to Googlin' and came up with this site on Thursday. On Saturday, I bought my soldering iron. It took less than 10 minutes start to finish. Never held a soldering iron in my life until then. Put the clock back in and "Have Mercy!" it worked. My son has been out of town, but when he gets in the car today, I can't wait to tell him that his momma is handy!

Thanks so much for this information and for this forum. I previously owned a Legacy Outback (her name was LouAnn) that died after 12 years and nearly 300,000 miles. Needless to say, I'm sold on Subies. Thanks again.

Hi, thanks for the pictures with your post! They made it very easy to find the offending broken solder joints and then fix them. Clock works and reinstalled, relatively painlessly. Thanks!

One more clock fixed. To those afraid to try, even with the ugliest giant blobs of solder and the 510 not even resting flat on the board mine works!

Funniest thing...my local Subaru specialist told me "those clocks never work" and said he couldn't figure out how to fix them. I'm debating if I want to share the knowledge or just charge him per clock to fix 'em. LOL.
