Well, just like everyone else, THANKS!!!!!!!!!!

It took longer for the iron to heat up than take the clock out, solder 510, and put the clock back in. Wow.

I hope I can find a site like this for my Hyundai. Thanks Again

If you want to post it to me i'll fix it and send it back, as long as you put some stamps in for the return

Let me add my thanks to the stack. Worked great on the clock in my '02 WRX. Trivia: The burn mark on the display is probably a normal byproduct of manufacturing. The clock uses a vacuum fluorescent display (VFD) which, not surprisingly, has a vacuum inside the glass envelope. The spot is probably the remains of a "getter" material that is used to remove any oxygen remaining inside after the envelope is sealed. You can see a similar spot on old vacuum tubes. Thanks again!! Bob

my clock broke last year too, but i don't want to spend $65 for a new clock (not including labor/installation). i bought a $5 clock from wallmart and glued it on the dashboard. it works great!

Labor isn't a big deal, it just pops out of the enclosure and is held on with one plug for power. I have a new clock I bought before I fixed my old one (using all this info) that I'll sell you for 50 and a few bucks shipping if you want to get rid of your wallmart dash clock, just send me a private replay if interested. If not, enjoy what you have! :)

SenorSube, you are a legend! Your wonderful pictures made it all so clear and gave me the courage to try the fix. I went out and bought a soldering iron, pulled the clock apart, heated the solder and Hey presto, my clock works again.

So, thanks from an Aussie Fozzie.

I bought a small roll of solder for a couple of bucks, so I'm guessing I've got enough left to fix another 400 or so clocks

senorsubie

you are a star, i have a 99 S/TB even in my case resistor 501 had doggy soldering,as i soldered one end ,the resistor just moved completly detaching from the PCB, it seems subaru needs to reveiw the soldering (well i guess the PCB is 9 years??)

What is so amazing that just today i went to shop for a replacement clock what is interesting was that i failed to geta parking slot so i did not go into the parts shop so this tip saved me this expense, this was divine intervention

This is my 1st DIY on my S/TB next i will be attempting to replace the Kenwood Stereo GX-606 this i beleive will be amission but i have already picked up critcal tips from the forum will update when done

I want to get rid of the dimming of the clock light also, but my wires aren't labeled. Is the blue wire the wire for the light?

Wow pulled the clock from my 98 and I heard a rattle the 300 resister had come off completely. What a pain trying to line it back up and hold the soldering iron, and poke it back into place, finally got it though. Touched up the others, then realized a few of the rubber switch seats had disappeared of course they are the same color as my interior, finally found em. Put the whole thing back together and yahoo, it works what a great fix!!!!

Thanks a million!!!!!!

I also want to fix the light problem, but my wires arent labeled. Is the blue wire the one for the light? I know on most ceiling fans with a light the blue is the light wire. Thanks for any help.
