she gave me that "stupid car guy look" and walked out.

I hate it when they do that.....

Why can't I be a proud car modifier? I need to get out of the closet.

Default No more continuous seatbelt noise

Hello all,

I'm a noob and just read through this entire post (AFTER I cranked my next looking under my driver's seat) on how to disable the seatbelt chime. I wish I had read the entire thread first, then maybe the back of my neck might not feel like it had been used by Bruce Lee for Judo practice. At any rate I have a MY09 FXT Limited. I performed the "20-click" method and now no more continuous seatbelt chime. Thank you much!

Now I'm wanting to replace the pathetic stock horn with an after market pair I purchased but I cannot get the #####! grill off. I got the top six plastic clips off easy enough but it appears there are two "ears" from the bumper that the grill is screwed to. PLEASE tell me I won't have to take off the entire bumper just to get to the stock horn. I read the thread where someone spliced into the stock horn wire but I want mine GONE. I might even mail it back to SOA since the noise it makes is really only good for turning on female toads. If I need to read a different post please let me know. Thanks again.

Yes, and all the other changes made to the car, like disabling the alarm chirp, and disabling the needles going over to the other side and back when the car is started, both things that really annoy me about my new 09 Outback Sport.

@ ForesterDave:

true enough, but come on now... .how often do you disconnect the battery?

Ok people on this board probably do it more than others, but i guess is the price we pay

@ NJ Nuddy:

on my old MY08 i had to remove the entire front bumper... it really isn't as hard as it sounds. took maybe 10 minutes tops.

I just bought a pair of Hella's for my MY09. I haven't installed yet, as the weather hasn't warmed up enough for me to do it outside (no garage).

I will post pictures when i do. But i am sure it is as easy as last time.

Edit: check out this thread http://www.subaruforester.org/vbulle...ertones-11166/ In particular, page 3 has some good pictures. Page 6 has my pictures from the MY08

Default Thanks again.

Thanks crash613, I will check out the link you provided and hopefully it will have some good pics. Not afraid to get my hands dirty I just don't like to if it's not absolutely necessary.

Two years later and after having read this thread a few times I decided to take the plunge. Mine's an 07 XT , heated seats, no power seat. I have 4 plugs in total . Its the second plug from the front, looking from the front. Following are pics of the plug itself and a closeup showing wiring colours on the connector.

Hi all,
I read this thread a few days ago, and can't remember if this was mentioned:
You can make the seatbelt stop chiming by shifting into gear and then back into park. At least on my '06 2.5X you can.
I do inspections of construction sites, and I type up reports onsite, so I am sitting and working at my laptop with engine running to provide A/C and electrical power for printer and laptop. I have figured out that you can stop the chime by putting on seatbelt, shifting into reverse, shifting back into park, and then removing the seatbelt. At that point it won't chime at you anymore until you kill engine and restart or put it back into gear and start driving. I would have been driven insane by now if I hadn't figured that one out. :)

Has anyone else tried the method in post #62? I want to disable my door chime!!! Don't mind the seatbelt one actually.

I’ve been following this thread with great interest, as I dislike the chimes and my wife absolutely hates them. I bought an ’01 Forester in February and have been trying to find that elusive ‘peace and quiet’ ever since.

The plug-under-the-seat sounded good, but being the compulsive person that I am, I wanted it ALL. I was out to get every one of those chimes… the ‘yer-seatbelt’s-not-fastened-dummy’ one, the 'are-your-keys-STILL-in-the-ignition?’ one, the ‘were-you-born-in-a-barn?-your-door’s-open’ one, the ‘on-the-hour’ one (no, wait… that one’s in the hall… sorry!).

Since I’ve been doing this for a while (ever since cars have had beepers and chimes…), I was pretty sure that I could find the little noise-maker itself. I finally hunted down the culprit yesterday. Under the lip of the dash, just to the left (toward the driver’s door) of the steering column, is a rectangular white box with “010” and a date stamp on it. It’s about 3.5 x 2.5 inches and is a little less than an inch thick. (That’s about 90mm x 70mm x 20mm to you metric types…) It has an 8-pin rectangular plug with 6 leads. I popped out the plug and hit the key. The ‘air bag’ light came on and went off, as did the other expected warning lights, but there were NO chimes, just sweet silence!

So, for now, it’s ‘Mission Accomplished’, but I’ll keep you posted if I discover any ill effects!

Seems that the '09 models do not have the original pictured 3 plus one white plug, or the 4 in a row. I've got 3 plugs in a row and the one that is missing is the white one!! I've also got a grey plug up towards the front of the car. The 20-click method might be best for me. I'll do it after I set up my amp/subs. Thanks everyone for the information...I can go grab pics if it will help out anyone

Just do the 20-click method for 09s. There was a clip under the driver's seat that I could disconnect to fix it, but as far as I can tell, the passenger seat cannot be simply disconnected. When you do that, it seems to disable the airbag as well. The 20 click method is superior, as you can disable both without digging around under the seat at all. If your battery gets disconnected, just do it again. It takes all of... 30 seconds :).

Oh. I'll have to do this on my mom's 09. The seat belt alarm drives her bonkers. Her mailbox is at the end of a long semi-private drive, so she doesn't usually bother putting it back on for the short trip to the house. (It would be about the length of 1.5 city blocks.) But it goes off like 10x while she's driving and maneuvering the car into the garage in reverse.

Holy sh*t...

I'm a sales rep, and treat my car like an office... most days I spend at least an hour sitting in the car just on the phone with the ****ing seat belt on because of this chime...

THANK YOU GUYS!!!!

No one has told us where the actual speaker is for the beeper/dinger.

If you show me where that is I'll put a push button on/off switch on it so I just disable the beeper without accidentally screwing up the safety systems!

So where is that pesky speaker????
