Thanks for posting the pix Fish! I'll continue on the write-up in the morning. I have a few pix to add myself.
For those wondering, the right side is MUCH tighter when it comes to space then the left side. The width of the opening is just over 9" wide where you need to mount speaker. A 10" shallow sub will fit, but the speaker would be screwed into the sheet metal on either side. You could also trim the sheet metal with a dremel, as it is rather thin and not needed around the edges of the opening.

Thanks for the praise on the install everyone. Sea-Scooby really knows his stuff, I just followed his direction and now I keep wanting to open my hatch and smile at how good it turned out. |

Yeah Sea Scooby I think I'll leave the right side as is.. I kinda like the storage space anyway for raingear.
Man it looks great.. agreed! very clean install. The little bit of sound-deadening will probably be nice also. Good info on those locations.. I'm thinking I still might go for the wheel-well fiberglassed sub box as it's almost too easy and you get to keep the spare.. You'd just have to lose the shelving above it but all that space above the tire that is currently the foam tray could serve as sub-enclosure volume with an MDF upper section, and the trap door would need a grill modification.. The stock sub location still looks like a great place for a 10" at least to accompany the 12" in the wheel-well. :) bumpity bump! Could even wire them to a big mono amp maybe.. A couple 4ohm single voice coil maybe? hmmmmm It's really looking great guys.. I'll also be interested in how it sounds.

Nice work guys! I did that same install in my car about two weeks ago, but didn't take any pictures of it. It took me about two weeks working on it by myself after work to get the whole car raammatted and install the subs. Finally got it done, and I love the way it sounds with two of them opposed to one, Much louder. I still have to fab up some speaker grills, I have to modify the holes in the trim panels because they are rubbing on the foam surrounds. As far as using 10"s in each side, i think there is enough room on the drivers sided but like sea-scooby said there is not enough room without cutting some of the sheet metal out of the way. As it is,my 2 Rockford 8"s are very loud back there. I'm very happy with it.

Just thought I would add the before pics... when I wass using the boxes from my last install. The subs were firing up in my VW Bus, but I wanted them firing down in the back of my Scooby, so I added a couple pieces of wood. It was meant to be temporary, but it was like that for almost a year.
