Default Cruise Control Issues

I have a forester XT MY09 and am having a bit of trouble with the cruise control. While driving, when I press the set button to set the speed, the speedo drops by about 2km/h and then goes back up to the set speed.

Also while driving , it tends to fluctuate by 2 or 3 km/h up and down around the set speed. It simply cannot maintain the exact speed. The problem is even more obvious when the road is not perfectly flat (i.e small 2 to 3 degree gradient). It seems like the cruise control is hunting and unable to maintain a constant speed.

Is this an inherent problem with Subaru cruise control system and its software, given that Subaru have just moved away from the old style to Drive By Wire technology.

My previous cars, Honda and Holden Vectra(european) did not suffer from this symptom. They could maintain a constant speed even on small slopes. They did not have the problem of slowing down slightly and getting back up to the correct speed when initially set.

Have other subaru forester owners experienced this issue. I mentioned this to the service center during my 5000km service but all they did was reset the computer/memory whatever that means. (Some dumb lame ass easy way out answer). Typical...

Any input would be really appreciated.

Thanks

I don't know if the 07 system is different but I find mine keeps the speed very consistent, even on hills. However it is often reluctant to be tapped down 1kmh at a time, often not even changing with up to 10 down taps.

My 09 XT seems to work fine, I drove 1500 miles getting it home and the cruise seemed to work very well.

My '07 with manual transmission is pretty good but might stray a mph plus or minus - I'd think an automatic would vary even more.
My '98 Altima was about the same, but my Eagle Talon (Mitsu Eclipse) would hold on to the set speed like a bulldog. It would also allow me to set the cruise at triple digit speeds and would give full boost to resume or maintain speed. Very agressive!
