You could look for info on this page: ae64.com This guy has lots of info about different head units for Subarus. He also says he has wiring harnesses to swap different head units into our cars. I have emailed him a time or two for more info and harness availability, but he never replies. But the info seems to me correct and it may help you. I am in the process of swapping the base model head unit for a new Kenwood Video head unit. It has backup capability, HD radio and bluetooth, but costs $300 with all the required installation parts.
Here is just something I would like to share. I swapped out my head unit and have the backup camera show up on its big 6 inch screen, which is nice but ..... the audio shuts off when the camera is on (car in Reverse) which I don't really care for. I still look out the mirrors including the inside one and I think the display would be better in the mirror than the radio. Just my 2 cents. I also may change the camera power from the backup lights in the rear to a pickup more up front off the transmission so I could add on/off/on switch .... so it could would automatically, OFF, or I could feed power to it to turn it on when I want.
Don't get me wrong it works great as is, but I like to tinker.
My son has the same Kenwood unit I am installing and the music plays when the head unit is displaying the backup camera. Camera can be viewed while driving also. Helpful when pulling a trailer to see if you are going to clip the curb with the trailer wheels. HD radio is REALLY nice. Free, no-static stations!
