2015 Bluetooth issues

I bought a new 2015 Forester in october. The Bluetooth seems to suddenly drop/stop/disconnect. It did this with my older casio Gzone and is now doing this with my brand new Galaxy S5. Sometimes it will reconnection. Sometimes it won't. Seems i can reestablish the connection if I turn of the phone BT, turn off the radio unit and then turn them both back on. I am pretty sure it is the Subaru unit sice it does this with two different phone. It is not cell signal related because I tried playing music stored on my S5 and the same thing happens.

My daughter bought a Crosstrek a couple of months ago and I noticed it has a different unit as do the new Foresters.

So, is this a known issue?
Will the dealer replace the unit under warranty with the newer unit?

They should either replace it or fix it, probably the former. Which head unit do you have? I have the one with nav and H/K speakers and haven't had any BT problems.

it is a known issue, hook up the usb cord then put the headunit on usb. Switch back to bluetooth and it will work unhook the usb cord.

well that may work but with all due respect, that is ridiculous to have to do that every time I start the car. It is not even something I could do while driving.

Also, I found that if a USB cable is connected, the Bluetooth overrides the USB but the USB keeps trying to connect. The net result is every few seconds the audio volume drops and the phone makes an alert sound through the system.

Not sure if this will work every time but it seems like if the BT audio stops I could get it to restart by pushing the Talk button on the steering wheel twice.

Anyway, work arounds are bogus. They should give me a radio that works properly.

The 14 XT Premium while have the crappy center shifter had a better NAV system the same one they put in the BRZ. Do not know why they stopped putting that system in the 15 Premium XTs?

This is what you do, when the audio on bluetooth gets muted. Plug the USB cord in. Then switch the mode to usb when you start to get audio unplug the cord and switch back to bluetooth. It will work but I have no idea why they put a crappy stereo into the XT Premiums now.

It must have saved them money somehow.

15 2.5i Premium Bluetooth issues

I have similar problems with the bluetooth in my 15 2.5i Premium.

Random disconnects in the middle of conversations, calls muted, REALLY poor sound quality over bluetooth (the other caller sounds very broken and garbled), phone doesn't always connect when the car is started.

I have tried 3 different phones, all LGs.
LG F6
LG G Vista
LG G Stylo

This looks like a definite head unit problem to me.

What do you think?

have you tried pairing ONLY with all voice prompts? dont touch the radio at all?
example
push voice command button
Phone setup
push voice command button
pair phone
push voice command button
Ijustwanthisposphonetoworknowkthanks

frantically try to type in 1234 in the 5s it gives you

repeat 2-3 times until it actually works.
I might have left out a prompt or 2 in there but you get the idea.
touch no button at all except the voice command button on steering wheel.
Well and buttons on the phone of course.. just no radio buttons.
Works until I flash my phone, switch phones or otherwise upset the BT.

That fixed my issues.

Also if you have any custom rom's on the phones that can be a problem.
most custom roms have crap BT

STILL not sure how they can make the BT interface and voice interface so crappy.

I can pair my headset in about 5seconds and it works forever flawlessly.

edit: also seems like 5.0 and 5.1 android work better than kitkat.(at least with my lg g3 and lg g2)

there was a known issue with galaxy phones. I forget the setting, but changing it worked for me. I'll look that up. It was when I had 4.x.x though.

And, what adroid are you running? When I downloaded 5.0+ all my issues stopped.

Also, I highly recommend Rand's suggestion too.

I had this same issue with my iPhone and 2015 Forester until I paired it as a bluetooth phone as described above. Otherwise, if I paired the phone through the radio only, it turns into a game of re-pairing the phone and in car audio every time I turn the key.

I had this problem when I first bought my '14 XT. When I purchased the car, I had an iPhone 4S and everything worked fine. I then upgraded to the Samsung Galaxy S4 and had the exact problems you were having. Since I originally had the iphone working I knew it was a problem with the phone. I ended up returning the Galaxy S4 and went with a HTC One M7 and it paired right up with no issues. I'm thinking it's the Galaxy line of phones.

I will try re-pairing but I think I did it before using voice commands because I could not get it to work with button pressing. My version says 5.0. I don't know about 5.0+. It says the latest update was 7/10/2015.

I have noticed that if it stops, sometimes it will start working again if I push Talk on the wheel twice.

Yep that was the same issue I had.

This fixed it for me, but that was 4.something.something.

I had a Note3.

This just started happening to me after about a year of pretty reliable connection. Now it is rare I make it to work or back with out the BT dropping completely. Has anyone had any success with going back to their dealer with this problem?

update will be available

I just had my Forester in to the dealer on Monday for its 18000 mile work and had them look at the BT issue. When I picked the car up, the paper work said "unable to duplicate, update available". So I asked them if there is an update available did you do the update? They went in back to talk about it and came back and said it should have said "update available soon". My service rep acknowledged that there have been a lot of problems. In the short term, they cleared the pairings and had me pair my phone again. The BT audio seemed to work better but the phone dropped the first time I tried it. Then this morning the audio locked up after a few minutes. So basically nothing got fixed.

Not sure what "available soon" means for an update.
