Default 05 STI steering wheel with cruise swap into an 04 XT.

I picked up an 05 STI steering wheel from XyKo over at NASIOC. It had a damaged center emblem which I replaced with a custom leather center button.

I was able to get the 05 cruise control stalk to work on my 04 XT.
There are only three wires needed for the cruise to work in an 04. Here is a picture of how I wired it up.

The 05 stalk has an extra pair of wires to the on/off button which I abandoned since we have that covered with the dash mounted on/off button.

Don’t connect the yellow to the yellow and white to white. The cruise will work, but the up and down functions will be reversed. Don’t ask me how I know this.

This is how it looks before installing the airbag.

Here is a little tip I picked up over @ NASIOC

This link has some some good info too.

I just picked up an 08 STI Steering wheel w/ airbag tonight with plans to install it into my 07 XT.

Install info: http://jpmcoachworks.com/howto/subar...n%20how-to.pdf

^^^^
Instructions how to remove/install steering wheel along with torque specs.

My concern was the airbag in my 07 XT was not dual staged. After doing some research, it looks like the (06-07) sti and (06-08) Forester matches the GRB (08-10) STI dual stage airbag.

Does anyone know for sure?

Brad, this might entice you to swap now:

This is an 06 Saab 92x with STI interior swap with 08+ JDM DAMD D Ring Steering Wheel

DNelly over at IWSTI. Waiting for his write up though. Pre 06 might be out of luck though. But this thread might provide a glimmer of hope: 06 STi steering wheel in GC - RS25.com: Subaru Impreza GC8 & RS Forum & Community

Even though the 06+ airbag plug changed, the charge is still the same size and bolts on the same as the pre06 model airbags. You can easily swap airbag charges if the one on the new wheels doesn't work.

Thanks Leo.

Maybe I'll try and tackle this one tomorrow. Hmmm...

Updated with corrected info. This is apparently a 06 92x with STI interior swap.

Hmm.. interested in seeing how this works out..

OMG I want that wheel. I would go with an older STi wheel but I would lose my audio controls. Where can I get the wheel in the pic above?

japanparts has it. for more money, there is also a carbon fiber variant, as well as the alcantara variant from both damd and prova.

Japanparts sells the wheel without the airbag/cover though. It is nearly $600 just for the wheel, and you would still need an 08+ STI airbag/cover.
