There used to be a stupid criminal thread on here but I'll be dipped if I can find it. Guessing that it used to reside in a place that is no longer spoken of. Anyway, let's make a new one!

'Pocket dialed' call leads to 2 arrests in Wisconsin Target store theft

Two Madison men were cited for retail theft Tuesday after a "pocket dial" to 911 provided a live play-by-play of their plans to sell stolen DVDs and computer games at a used video game store on the city's East Side, police said.

According to Madison police, Jason S. Hamielec, 29, and Brian A. Johnson, 28, couldn't stop talking about their thievery after lifting a bunch of DVDs and computer games from a Target store at 201 Junction Road on the city's Far West Side at about 5:30 p.m.

They yakked, jawed and chortled inside their getaway SUV for 54 minutes, bragging about what they stole, describing the vehicle they were in, and chatting about where they might get the best prices for the stolen merchandise before locking in on the Video X-Change, 3002 Atwood Ave., said police spokesman Joel DeSpain.

The two even talked about how police would be looking for a blue Dodge Durango without license plates, so they decided to put the plates back on, DeSpain said.

When the pair pulled into a parking lot near the Video X-Change, they noticed a couple of squad cars, DeSpain said. The next thing they knew, several officers, a couple with guns drawn, were yelling, "Police! Show your hands!"

Both men were dumbfounded by how police knew exactly where they would be, not knowing one of them had pocket dialed 911 on his cellphone when they got into the SUV after the theft, DeSpain said.

As officers inventoried the stolen items and the men's property, DeSpain said, one of them looked at the smoking gun - the cellphone that was still on with a 911 call taker listening in.

Robber's getaway car ran out of gas

MANCHESTER — Note to any would-be robbers: Don’t forget to gas up the getaway car.

A Bedford woman walked into the Varney Street Quick Stop on the West Side about 6:10 p.m. Saturday and said she had a gun.

A store clerk said he had a bat and chased the woman outside, striking her before she got to her car empty-handed, according to police Lt. Michael Hurley.

The woman, identified as 29-year-old Jannell Perry, fled in a 1999 Volvo station wagon, but got only as far as Comeau Street, about a third of a mile from the store at 323 Varney St., police said.

“We got a tip the vehicle ran out of gas,” Hurley said.

Because of her injuries, Perry “was asking for an ambulance,” Hurley said. “I think one of the neighbors that lived in the area made the call for her.”

The fire department relayed word of the call to police, who matched the license plate number the clerk gave with the station wagon’s plates, Hurley said.

Perry, who is charged with robbery, was being evaluated at Catholic Medical Center, according to authorities.

“Nothing surprises me nowadays,” Hurley said.

He said it is always the "morons" doing the crimes. Occasionally he runs into the smart criminal.

He was involved in a chase a while back with two others(the chase entered the interstate) and it was obvious the guy driving the getaway was a very good driver.

They eventually just kept pace with the guy and let him run out of gas.

His favorites are the people who try to rob stores with employees that have been in the military...so they recognize a gun with the safety on...

Not a very well written story here. It leaves lots of questions unanswered. I think this TV station only employs interns in its news department.

But anyway, it's really amazing that a crew based in California decided to come to New Hampshire for a pretty violent and well planned crime spree. What's more amazing is that one of the guys threw away his Halloween mask after the robbery, citizens discovered it, police recovered DNA from the inside, and they nailed him 3000 miles away.

Moral of the story: Don't be a litterbug.

Police: NH woman arrested 4 times in 26 hours - News - Boston.com

EPPING, N.H. (AP) — Authorities say a New Hampshire woman has been arrested four times in 26 hours for blasting the AC/DC song ‘‘Highway to Hell’’ and other loud music from her home and for throwing a frying pan.

Police first issued a warning to Joyce Coffey on Tuesday afternoon at her home in Epping. They say they were called back an hour later and arrested her for the loud music.

Police say Coffey was arrested again five hours later. She was released and arrested again before dawn Wednesday over more loud music.

Police arrested her again after her nephew said he tried to remove some of his belongings from her house and she threw the frying pan at him.

Coffey was jailed Friday and couldn’t be reached for comment. WMUR-TV reports a judge has recommended she use headphones.
